Allison Beardsley (Pilates Instructor)
Allison Beardsley graduated from San Diego State University. She holds a B.S. in Kinesiology with an emphasis in Physical education. She was certified in mat Pilates through The Physicalmind institute in 2002. Her extensive Pilates training was completed through Long Beach Dance Conditioning, with Cathleen Murakami. Allison has also been certified as a personal trainer with The American College of Sports Medicine or ACSM as well as The American Council on Exercise or ACE.
Allison found Pilates after an ACL knee reconstruction from basketball left her body imbalanced and weak. "I was like a tight old man who could barely touch my knees," she states as she recollects her before Pilates body. Allison's physical imbalances left her achy and unable to do traditional exercises. "Pilates was very difficult for me, being a traditional athlete I had experienced nothing like this before." Her body has truly transformed since her Pilates practice. Many of Allison's clients believe she is so patient and effective as a teacher because she had a true struggle herself with this form of exercise. She is able to give effective cues and demonstrations for the general population where as many Pilates' instructors come from a background where they have been flexible and in Pilates shape their whole life. Allison always says "If I can do it so can you" which is very true considering how much Pilates has impacted her personally. Allison's passion and belief in the Pilates method of exercise has led her on a path to help others enjoy the same benefits she has gained through her practice, which is why she is opening Club Pilates San Diego. Every teacher puts their own spin on Pilates. For an experience like no other traditional Pilates class, give Club Pilates a try. It is the most fun guaranteed.
Sophie Mahoney (Pilates Instructor)
Sophie discovered Pilates in 2000 when it was first introduced to her as a form of therapy to build core strength and restore physical equilibrium .What was intended to be an exercise method turned out to be much more. She became addicted in the way it made her feel. While Sophie had been physically active all her life, with competitive swimming at national level in France, recreational running and as a Spinning instructor, Pilates has transformed her physical health. Her passion and commitment eventually led her to become an instructor. Sophie studied Pilates at the Marshall Eklund Stott Pilates certification center. She is eager to share her knowledge and enthusiasm for Pilates with others and help them experience the joy of body/mind consciousness.
Sarah Cushman (Pilates Instructor)
Sarah Cushman is one of the most passionate, kind and down to earth people you'll ever meet (she makes me feel evil because she is so nice). She has an amazing way of working with others and helping people reap the benefits of the Pilates technique. Originally from northern California, Sarah approaches the body from a very holistic "earthy" stand point. In addition to her abundance of certifications and experience in the fitness industry, Sarah is also a Certified Thought Field Therapy Coach; which is a form of therapy that relieves anxiety and neutralizes negative emotions. Sarah received her Pilates training through Long Beach Dance Conditioning which is "The Harvard" of Pilates Schools. LBDC offers the most evolved and intense program which really focuses on not only the movement aspect of Pilates but the biomechanical and anatomical "Why" of the movement. Sarah has also spent the past several years as the Fitness Coordinator of the Hazard Center YMCA, which really completes her experience in the industry from the instructor aspect to therapist, to the managerial component. Sarah has also been certified in the EFI Gravity Exercise science courses which include: Reformat, Group Strength and Personal Training. Being the fitness coordinator at the YMCA, Sarah has also taken YMCA Fitness training courses in: Healthy Lifestyle Principles, Foundations of YMCA Group Exercise and Personal Training. She also has extensive training in Professional leadership courses ranging from Campaign Institute to Supervision. Sarah passion, experience and personality make her a pleasure to work with and a sought after trainer. Sarah's fitness philosophy is "get out of your head and get into your body," which is great advice for anyone in these times of technology and convenience.
Najwa Ahad (Pilates Instructor)
Najwa Ahad is a San Diego native who fell in love with Pilates nearly 4 years ago. From the beginning she was able to see positive changes in her body and reach fitness goals - including increased flexibility, core strength, and body awareness. She quickly realized Pilates was just the total body training she had been searching for and was compelled to share her passion with others!
After graduating from San Diego State University with a degree in Business Marketing and working in the Logistics field for a few years, Najwa knew the time to pursue a teaching certification had come! She enrolled in Stephanie Aubuchon-Fernandez’s intensive Pilates Certification program, a recognized program of the Pilates Method Alliance. Through this program she has developed a solid understanding of anatomy and body mechanics in relation to classical Pilates exercise. In addition, she has been trained fully in all apparatus including Reformer, Cadillac, Wunda Chair, Ladder Barrel, and Spine Corrector.
Najwa's goal is to help her students achieve an understanding of the principles of Pilates while having fun and gaining body awareness and confidence!
Cindy Matalucci (Pilates Instructor)
Cindy Matalucci has always been a fitness fanatic. Since she was in grade school in Avalon, New Jersey, she played basketball, field hockey, and little league (yes the only girl on the team!) After playing Varsity basketball and field hockey in high school, she went on to play field hockey at Washington College in Chestertown, Maryland. It was there that she became a step aerobics instructor and an avid runner. After graduating college with an English Major and Business Minor, she headed west to San Diego where she could work out all year long! After years of weight training and running she developed chronic neck pain and headaches and longed for a work out that would stretch and lengthen her body. In 2002 she discovered Pilates and fell in love!! "Pilates completely changed my body. I went from hating the bulkiness of my legs to loving the look of my long and leaner muscles. It also helped me with my neck pain and headaches. I was hooked!"
After training in Pilates for 5 years Cindy decided to teach and to share her passion for Pilates. She then spent a year on her certification through the Chakra Pilates Instruction Education Program where she learned both classical and progressive Pilate’s methods. She is fully certified in all apparatus including the reformer, the Cadillac, wunda chair, ladder barrel, as well as a full Mat certification. She is also a member of the Pilates Method Alliance. "I want to help people take their fitness to the next level, as well as help them to achieve the mind/body connection taught by Joseph Pilates. I want to help people build stronger bodies while having a blast doing it!!"
